Mr. De La Garza entered the legal profession almost 40 years ago. He was always good at debating and decided to go to law school and use his background in chemical engineering when he started practicing law. A preeminent patent law firm asked him to join the firm after graduating, and Mr. De La Garza has been practicing law since. After 25 years at the boutique IP law firm of Arnold, White & Durkee and five years at Fulbright & Jaworski, he founded his own law firm in 2005 that focuses on complex litigation including intellectual property litigation. He co-counsels with other experienced lawyers to provide services for pre-litigation, litigation, trial and appeal representation.

Mr. De La Garza has a wealth of experience in litigation matters involving semiconductor technology, pharmaceuticals, drilling technology, medical devices, consumer products, fertilizers and genetically modified crops. As a first chair lawyer, he has tried to verdict patent, trademark, copyright, unfair competition, departing employee and trade secret disputes. He also counsels clients on many IP matters including freedom to operate issues and audits of IP rights. Mr. De La Garza has served as an expert witness in malpractice cases arising from patent litigation. He has also used ADR to resolve cases without the necessity of prolonged and expensive litigation. He is a mediator and a certified neutral in Minnesota. While he is extremely proud of all representations, Mr. De La Garza’s fondest moment was representing Betsy Clark, an artist for Hallmark cards.

An AV rated attorney by Martindale Hubbell, Mr. De La Garza’s firm was named Best Law Firm by U.S. News from 2011 to present day.
